September - October New Anatomy and Pathology Art and Favourites

Hello! I hope you are doing well. The times are bad, as they always are, I guess, around the world. When there is so much suffering going around, it is easy to become cynical. I am falling into that trap all the time. But as the wise Maria Popova says: "Critical thinking without hope is cynicism, but hope without critical thinking is naïveté". If she says these, I'd better listen to her, and add some home, when I can find it in me.

YouTube channel: Jenny Mustard

In a time where my focus is severely altered by the news, by all the horrific things I read, when everybody needs something of me, this channel just popped up in my YouTube feed. I must say, I love it. She has such a clean aesthetic, she is so calm, kind, the style of the videos is amazing, I can´t stop watching.

WALKS

I post and write about my walks whenever I have the mental capacity to appear online. They don´t happen quite as frequently, as our schedule has been somewhat busier, but when they happen, I am so grateful. My mind is always thanking the forest for being there. It helped with grief, it helped with major life decisions. This forest is the best thing to happen to this part of town.

MUSIC

Every morning at breakfast, I put on a violin or piano concert for my kids to listen to. There is usually a video in the background, and while I would never let them watch TV at the table, I think it is ok for their mind to listen to classical music. This is what I grew up with; we never listened to anything else. And I am also glad for them to see people working hard for their talent. On the table, we had Anne Sophie Mutter, Hilary Hahn, Janine Jensen, and Bomsori Kim. Some men were listened to as well, but I have girls, and they want to see women mostly. I guess they associate better.

BOOKS

Currently reading this from Dan Brown. It was a gift and it takes place in Prague, so I feel I must read it. I can´t say I am completely taken by it, but I guess it is ok enough for me to have something in the evening to wind down with.

I think what we should all read, though, is this:

Your opponents would love you to believe that it's hopeless, that you have no power, that there's no reason to act, that you can't win."

HALLOWEEN

My favourite holiday. Our house, inside and out, is full of decorations. Partially handmade, some bought over the years. I had to clean my desk, and move some decorations to other parts of my home office, to ... you know, have some place to work :)

ART

Remedios Varo - I´ve known of her, but sad to admit, I only now checked out her work more. Surrealism, magic, science, being a woman in this/that world. Yes, to all of that!

Sander Steins - I´ve been checking out his work for years now. I cannot tell you how much I love his work, and would love to see it hanging in my living room.
